Projects

GEM has proven capacity and experience in the design and execution of projects in the field of electrical production and industrial facilities. Our work is mainly carried out in existing plants, making improvements or modifications to adapt them to current legislation, or to improve energy efficiency and therefore maximize their economic profitability.

Depending on the needs of our clients, the scope of GEM can include both Engineering and Construction Management of projects, as well as turnkey delivery.

Some of the projects executed by GEM are described below:

  • Adaptation of the metering configuration in power plants to “todo-todo” regime and compliance with the provisions of the Legislation of Self-consumption (Royal Decree 900/2015 and Royal Decree 244/2019) in 24 facilities. Turnkey execution of projects, including:
    • Electrical conceptual definition.
    • Interlocution with the Ministry of Industry, Distribution companies, System Operator and National Commission of Markets and Competition, CNMC, to obtain approval of the proposed technical solution.
    • Engineering, supply, assembly and commissioning of each executed solution.

The premise of selling electricity in the “todo-todo” regime arose from the analysis of the existing legal framework at the time (Royal Decree 661/2007). As a milestone within these projects, there were cogeneration plants that achieved an extra € 6 million in annual income with their switch to the “todo-todo” regime after the completion of the project.

  • Engineering for the execution of the cooling system of the low temperature circuit of a cogeneration plant using seawater, comprising:

    • Design of lay-out.

    • Definition and selection of main equipment (heat exchangers, pumps and instrumentation).

    • Specification of mechanical and electrical assembly.

    • Design of the control architecture.

  • Adaptation of several cogeneration plants to the Efficiency Guide published by the Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (IDAE). In the turnkey modality, the scope included engineering, supply, assembly and commissioning of the following systems:
    • Metering system for electrical magnitudes, including meters, metering transformers and load resistors.
    • Fuel metering system, including gas quantometers and PTZ correctors.
    • Metering system for recovered thermal energy, including counters for exhaust gases, steam, hot water and condensates, resistance thermometers, depressors and transmitters.
    • Communications and integration of all variables in the SCADA type control system.

  • Heating system of the offices of and industry associated with a cogeneration power plant, using the hot water from the high temperature circuit of the engines. Project was delivered in turnkey mode, including design, supply and assembly of pipes and accessories, instrumentation and control and electrical installation.

  • Automatic regulation system of the cosine of phi in electricity sales, in cogeneration and other power plants. The scope also included the supply and assembly of reactances to increase reactive consumption in the required hours and support the alternator. The correct operation of the systems – delivered in turnkey mode - provided the facilities owned by Sacyr an extra income of € 5 million per year.
